Dr. Chad Haddal is a National Security Systems Analyst at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory and an Internal Fellow at the Center for Global Security Research. He is an expert on nonproliferation and international security with nearly two decades of experience leading analysis, implementation, and executive decision-making support for U.S. national laboratories, international organizations, and the U.S. Congress. His research interests are in deterrence, nonproliferation, and the future of multilateral verification regimes.

Prior to joining LLNL, Dr. Haddal served as a Strategic Planning Officer for the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Department of Safeguards, where he led the External Environment Analysis and the 2020 Emerging Technology Workshop. As a Systems and Research Analyst at Sandia National Laboratories, Dr. Haddal worked on security, foresight, and nonproliferation issues. Dr. Haddal began his professional career at the Congressional Research Service, where he provided analysis and expertise on border security and immigration to Members of Congress and their staff. He is the author of numerous government and laboratory studies on technical and security issues.

Dr. Haddal holds a Ph.D. in political science from Washington University in St. Louis and a bachelor’s in economics and political science from St. Olaf College.
